I would like to start by giving all at Truly Nourish a HUGE thank you for their kindness and generosity in allowing me to try their yummy two-day juice cleanse.
Truly Nourish was created by Isabelle, a clean eating foodie and expert nutritionist! The aim of Truly Nourish is “to provide delicious and nutritious cold-pressed juice cleanses with a friendly smile and helpful advice.” (quote from website http://www.trulynourish.co.uk) I can safely say that Isabelle had been incredibly helpful, friendly and efficient through out my cleanse, a really fantastic ambassador for the company!
I am sure you are all aware of the recent craze of juice cleanses and juice detoxes, as we are suddenly becoming flooded with images of celebrities and Victoria Secret models sipping on their green juices and cleansing for a day or two for a pick me up. Who wouldn’t want a body like a Victoria Secret model after all?! It seems we are all jumping on the juice bandwagon.
I for one feel as if juicing is a fantastic way to cleanse and detoxify your organs and digestive system, and give it a little rest from processing foods which are sometimes not the best for us as they may contain additives or hidden nasties. Juicing is almost a way or resetting your body and bringing it back to a healthy, happy state allowing you to embark on your clean eating journey following the detox.
So why detox or cleanse? People decided to cleanse for a number of reasons. A few of these include weight loss, to reduce bloating, for a quick healthy pick-me-up or for renewed energy and health benefits. Being able to gain such a huge amount of nutrients and goodness from a bottle of juice seems like an easy way to reset your body and to detoxify yourself from our toxic modern lifestyles.
Here was my experience.
I was kindly sent a two day cleanse from Truly Nourish, costing £90 (inc. free delivery!). Juice cleanses can be expensive so it is important to see if they are worth it! In my cleanse I received 10x 500ml bottles, 5 bottles per day. One day cleanse includes 3 Super Green juices and 2 Raw Red juices, every juice is cold-pressed. During the cleanse you are encouraged to drink herbal teas and lots of water to keep hydrated, but eating is not permitted.
During the first morning of my cleanse it did feel unnatural to not have breakfast or a snack as I had got into such a routine of eating, without actually thinking how much I was eating throughout the day. Instead I would just eat whenever I felt I needed food.
By the afternoon of the first day I was experiencing hunger pangs and I was craving food, though I kept mentally strong and told myself that instead of actually being hungry, it was a habit that I had been eating routinely for the last 21 years so instead I should try and stick to my cleanse and do my best to focus. Drinking herbal teas really helped satisfy any cravings though.
By the evening I had enjoyed my five juices for the day and I ended the evening with a herbal tea. It did feel strange going without food for the day, but it already felt better for giving my body a rest! I slept soundly that night.
On day two I felt more empowered to continue with the detox, so I started the day with a positive mindset. I kept myself busy and continued to drink lots of water and herbal teas in between juices. It is surprising how much water fills you up when you stop focusing your mind on eating foods instead of drinking water! I did not do any exercise during the two days as I wanted to give my body a total rest.
By the second evening I had had all 10 juices and I felt surprisingly happy, content and uplifted – I did not expect to feel this way! I was not craving sugary or fatty foods, instead I was quite happy to allow my body to enjoy the detox and have a rest for a little while.
Overall I found my detox challenging, yet enjoyable! The juices were packed full of a variety of nutritious ingredients which were easier to drink than many other green juices. I would recommend starting with a one day cleanse if you are not familiar with juicing! You are all probably wondering if I lost weight during the cleanse, I lost 2lbs but juicing should not be seen as a way primarily as a quick weight loss fix. A healthy lifestyle is much more important, if you are healthy then the weight loss will take care of itself! I did feel revitalised and energised after the cleanse and my body is thanking me for it now!
Following the cleanse I am going to eat mainly raw foods, including vegetables, fruits and raw snacks that I create on my blog, yummy. Having cleansed for two days, my body is now craving healthy, wholefoods which I am excited about! I can’t wait to make a smoothie later with lots of delicious ingredients.
I hope you all find this post useful! 🙂 good luck if you are embarking on your own juice cleanses too. Remember, it’s all in your mind! Be mentally strong and you will reap the benefits.
